Test Fixtures & Interfaces for Curve Trace Test Systems

RTI designed the curve trace models to connect with remote test fixtures and DUT board interfaces to expand test applications and accessibility when used with other measurement tools. Each model has its own interfacing options to connect to your test fixture or DUT board.

Below are introductions to each curve trace models’ test fixtures and interface options.

The MT Century uses two simplified cable interface systems:

  1. Yamaichi Cable System: A PCB is located on the back of the test system and all pins are routed to a 100 pin connector made by Yamaichi (NDS type). RTI supports this interface for a variety of DUT boards with direct compatibility with the Yamaichi connector. RTI’s manual switch box shares this cable interface.
  2. Native Cables: Native 60 pin ribbon cables (54 active pins) connect directly to the DUT boards. If the pin count is lower than 54, RTI can crimp different size connectors to the ribbon cable to make it compatible with simple DUT boards that use IDC ribbon cable interface.

The MultiTrace offers multiple interface options.

  1. PGA-625 Fixture Box: Standard fixture with the MultiTrace for over 30 years. Basic features include a PGA ZIF socket with a 25x25 array for a maximum of 625 pins. A 1 to 1 Make-Break jumper area allows external connections to pins under test or isolate pins from the test system. RTI supports a wide range of DUT boards for this fixture. Remote extension available for interface.
  2. Verifier MK2 Compatible Fixture Box: For users supporting ESD testing, this option offers low-cost and convenience of needing one DUT board for both test systems. Verifier 256 or 512 pin DUT boards are compatible.
  3. Custom Compatibility Fixtures: RTI manufactures custom test fixtures to interface with the test system. These compatibility fixtures can connect directly to the MultiTrace and serve as the primary fixture. It can also be stacked on the PGA-625 socket like a DUT board or wired in parallel with a standard fixture.

The MegaTrace uses both direct on-system and remote cable based interface options:

  1. Octopgo™ Fixture: RTI’s gold standard for curve trace interfaces, the Octopogo™ has many features. It’s compatible with systems up to 1152 pins, and is a spring pin block based test fixture. Octopogo™ DUT boards are clamped down with 4 screws from the top. Remote docking fixtures are available for remote testing.
  2. Elastomer Interface: The original MegaTrace fixture designed by UTI. RTI continues to support this fixture. Elastomer is compatible with systems up to 2160 pins and is based on elastomer strip connectors. This flexible system compresses between the DUT board and fixture PCB, creating an electrical connection that is durable, reliable and low-cost compared to spring pins. Large format DUT boards can support a wide range of fixture requirements.
  3. Yamaichi Connector Interface: Supports pin counts from 648 to 2160 and can built into the curve trace system as a native interface or built onto the elastomer’s large format DUT board and used as an interface.
  4. Custom Compatibility Fixtures: RTI manufactures custom test fixtures to interface with any standard test system. These compatibility fixtures can connect directly to the MultiTrace and serve as the primary fixture.
